Chicago Cubs Kyle Schwarber back to the minors, impact on card value?

The quick rise of Kyle Schwarber for the current championship club, the Chicago Cubs, and his gradual fall has surely been a point of frustration for Cubs fans.

Injuries certainly have something to do with the struggling former-catcher-turned-outfielder not being able to build on the incredible success of his rookie season.

But even when declared healthy, Schwarber hasn’t played up to the potential he’s already shown in his young career.

Maybe Cubs manager Joe Maddon, who is known to exhibit great patience with younger players, saw more value in sending him back down to work out his swing. Schwarber has batted under .200 this month with 15 strikeouts.

It seems the value of his card has cooled off too with his 2014 Bowman Chrome Draft base autograph card (BGS Graded 9.5/10) once selling for $230, and recently being sold for $140.

At age 24 and knowing the Maddon will surely give him another shot, it could very well be a buy low opportunity right now.
