Perhaps talking about the eventual call up of Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Austin Meadows was a little premature.
Because rookie Josh Bell is heating up after a sluggish start. So much so, his manager Clint Hurdle changed his mind after declaring him not ready to bat in the cleanup spot.
In the afternoon game slated today against the Washington Nationals, that’s exactly where he was slotted and what did he do? Hit another homerun – number nine of the season to lead all National League rookies as of May 18.
Now because of his slow start, his 2012 Bowman Chrome Prospect base autographed card (BGS Graded 9.5/10) can still be found at a discount for less than $95.
The way he’s mashing now, don’t expect that price to stay that low. Bell has certainly had some issues (particularly with injuries) but it seems he’s adapting well at the Major League level.
With the vote of confidence from Coach Hurdle, Bell could see more opportunities to show why he was considered a top prospect before being called up to The Show.
