Stock rising: Minnesota Twins’ Miguel Sano flashing his all-round potential

For a player of his size, Miguel Sano of the Minnesota Twins was expected to hit homeruns.

Screen Shot 2017-05-12 at 9.35.29 AM.pngHis power potential was never in doubt as he’s shown this year with nine homeruns already and previously hitting 25 homers in 2016 and 18 in half a season in 2015.

But his high strikeout rate seemed to limit his all-round potential and it showed with his low .236 batting average in 2016. This season though, while still a little early, Sano seems to have started putting things together and is currently batting on the good side of .300.

Sano’s had that top prospect label on him so it shouldn’t be a surprise for collectors to see his value as high as it is now. One recently sold for under $350 for a 2010 Bowman Chrome Prospect base autographed rookie (BGS Graded 9.5/10).

With his much higher walk rate and bat discipline, his offensive stats could very well stay at or around this level rather than revert back to his 2016 numbers.

If that’s the case, expect more of Sano’s rookie cards to be snatched up by Twins fans and rookie chasers alike. (On a side note, I’m sure both Twins fans and rookie chasers are hoping for the same with another Twins youngster – Byron Buxton – although patience is wearing thin.)

One thing is for sure: the buy low window is firmly shut. A refractor version of his Bowman Chrome Prospect autographed card (BGS Graded 9.5/10) was sold in late March for less than $200.
