What’s a one-category player like Billy Hamilton worth?

There are all different kinds of baseball players that make the big leagues.

Sure, the top players in the game are well-rounded in their skill set, which include great power potential, high consistent batting average, speed and great on defence.

His extraordinary speed masks some of his other liabilities as a player (like his batting average) that it’s worth it for the Cincinnati Reds to roster him.

Hamilton recently hit the 200 stolen base mark becoming the fastest Reds player of all time to reach that mark (in just 424 games).

When it comes to collecting though, it doesn’t translate as well to overall value. His 2012 Bowman Chrome Prospect base autographed rookie (BGS Graded 9.5/10) can be bought for just $50.

His gold refractor of the same card is a reasonable $200.

It might take Hamilton to reach another milestone for collectors to see a significant bump in value.

FYI: He only needs about 1,200 more to tie the great Rickey Henderson for being the all-time stolen base leader.
