I’m still not sure how I feel about this, but seeing Connor McDavid’s 2015-16 Upper Deck Young Guns “Black Label” rookie card worth nearly $12,000 with about eight hours left to bid on eBay seems to be a little crazy.
The “Black Label” in the Beckett Grading System is given when all the sub-categories are given a score of 10. It’s pristine squared.
There’s certainly a demand for it with 79 bids made on it with hours left before the end of the auction.
But for a card that isn’t autographed or serial numbered, I’m not sure I’d pay up that much for a rookie card (albeit one of a potential generational player).
If I really wanted a pristine card of McDavid’s, I’d settle for a BGS Graded 10 rookie with sub-categories of 10 and a 9.5 for $1,000.
Even better, a BGS Graded 9.5 Gem Mint worth $300 is better value for me.
